A Report on the Participation of Former President of Seychelles and ICD Advisory Board Member Sir James Mancham at The Rise of Africa Conference at the ICD Berlin

Seychellesweekly.com, April 6th, 2010

The show, aired from 8-10pm, posed the question: Is Africa really on the rise? [Mr Mancham]
The Institute for Cultural Diplomacy (ICD) in Berlin, Germany – of whose advisory board Mr Mancham is a member – has already hosted a conference under the same theme in January this year.

And from June 11-14, a second conference in Berlin to discuss this question of African progress will be held under the patronage of Mr Mancham.

At the conference – entitled The rise of Africa: innovative strategies and progressive thinking for Africa’s renaissance – the founder and director of the ICD, Mark Donfried, will speak about the ethos of the institute and the tool of “cultural diplomacy”.

Mr Mancham will share his views on the current practical relevance of such meetings of minds and, with his experience of African statecraft, on the viability of the conference theme.

A quote on the ICD website regarding the Rise of Africa conference says: “The year 2010 serves as a milestone in African history, presenting an excellent opportunity to take a look back at the continent’s achievements and consider the next steps in addressing its remaining challenges.”
